My Little Sunshine

I can’t explain the mood I’m in lately – feelsy possibly would best describe it. Nostalgic might be another way to go. Jason is my youngest. He’s also currently, but I’m sure that will change in time, my littlest one. Therefore that makes him my littlest love. He was my last baby, so I have to begrudgingly admit that watching him grow and make strides has been nothing short of bittersweet. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about 11 years ago. In mid-December 2005 my silly little booger was conceived. He was not a planned baby, more of an “oops!” But that sounds horrible. Saying something like that almost makes it seem like he was an accident. He wasn’t. He was a surprise. The difference? Well, an accident is something you wish never happened. A surprise, on the other hand, is something you didn’t realize you wanted until you had it. Now, I’ll admit when that pregnancy test first turned positive I wanted to throw up, and not from the morning sickness that was already wreaking havoc on my gastrointestinal tract. I got scared. Mommy does! For about twenty minutes after that pregnancy test told me I had a third babe on the way, I questioned whether or not we could handle another mouth to feed…

I wrote in it once every few weeks, if that often, and mostly about things that were currently annoying me. Back then (I started it at the tail end of my maternity leave 10 years ago) I had no idea you could actually earn money from your blog – had I known that I would’ve put more effort into it. I mean, was that a thing back in 2006? I don’t even know…

I Need a Do Over

Somehow the years have managed to fly right on by because I could’ve sworn it was just yesterday when Jason started attending his current school. In reality it’s been four years. He started at this school when he was entering first grade.  He’s now in fifth grade, which means this is his last year in elementary school and he moves on to middle school next year. I should be excited. I am. Sort of. Jason is way more excited than I am though. The middle school is just a few blocks from our house and any time we pass by it, whether on foot or in the car, he’s sure to remind me, “Hey mom! I’m going there next year!&#8221…
